We continue to provide guidance and information on Flexible Work Arrangements (Article 59 in our contract) as a result of confusing messages from management.
You may need to update your Flexible Work Arrangement:
- If you moved your home address, you should update it in the Rutgers system.
- If your department was restructured, your supervisor may need to update the needs assessment and team agreement document. Our union does not oppose making these edits to your current arrangement in the Flex Work @RU Application System.
- If you have been working a flexible or remote arrangement without it being documented in the portal. In this case, you should apply according to the steps of an initial application and seek approval (which shall not be unreasonably denied).
This does not mean you need to apply for a new arrangement or that that your current arrangement will expire automatically. These types of factual updates would constitute a revisit to update for accuracy. The same arrangement should be revisited and approved without controversy.
If your agreement is accurate in the system and neither you nor you supervisor want to make changes, but it is older than one year, you may want to re-upload all the same information into the portal.
If you wish to request a modification, for example to request different remote workdays, this could provide an opportunity to do so. This may also require the departmental needs assessment and team agreement to be revisited. Upload all relevant changes into the portal and seek approval.
If your supervisor is acting to make your Flexible Work Arrangement worse, you should be part of that conversation and your input should be considered before any changes are implemented.
Ending or changing a current arrangement still requires written notice 14 days in advance and a reasonable explanation provided in writing. If this is the case, please contact union@ura-aft.org to discuss your situation and options.
