Q&A: How Our Next Raise Should Be Calculated

contract

Q: When is our next raise due? Our contract calls for an across-the-board “flat dollar salary increase equal to 3.5%” of the average salary in the bargaining unit.

4. Fiscal Year 2026

Effective July 1, 2025, URA-AFT unit employees shall receive an across-the-board flat dollar salary increase equal to 3.5% of the full time and part time average annual salaries of all unit employees who are on the University’s payroll as of the first payroll date in March 2025.

From: Article 41 – Salary Improvements – Union of Rutgers Administrators

Q. What does that mean? Everyone in the URA-AFT bargaining unit will receive a set dollar amount, based on the average full-time salary for the designated pay period. The norm (and first three raises in this contract) were across-the-board where everyone gets the same percentage raise. An average salary raise like this one is considered progressive—meaning that lower-paid workers will receive a higher raise by percentage in the last year of the four-year agreement.

Q: Is this a new concept? No. We had a flat dollar across-the-board increase in each of our last two four-year contracts.

Q: What happens to my grade? The minimum and maximum of the grades will increase by the dollar amount of the raises as well.

C. Salary Increase: The minimum and maximum salary for each grade shall be increased by the amount/percentages set forth below.
