Successor agreements to Flexible Work Arrangements should be updated and uploaded by February 1, 2026, according to the message (FlexWork@RU Program Update | Application Deadline February 1st | uhr.rutgers.edu), sent January 14, 2026.
If You Have An Existing FWA
As we have reiterated over the past several years, if your supervisor is seeking to reduce your FWA agreement, contact the union immediately so we can respond appropriately.
- Download your existing Departmental Needs Analysis and Teamwork Agreement. Remember, based on our contract, this is a collaborative document and agreement. Review with your co-workers for accuracy and be prepared to discuss.
- Based on the Teamwork Agreement portion of the document, review your responsibilities and be prepared to highlight your productivity and meet the needs in your Classification And Recruitment Form (CARF). If you don’t have your CARF, then request yours from your department.
- Write down any rationale from your supervisor related to diminishing a FWA. If they don’t put it in writing, take notes and email them back to clarify their stated position so you have a record for yourself. They may not respond, but you have asked the appropriate clarifying question(s).
If You Do Not Have A FWA
Since the process is now further institutionalized, now is time to submit an application. Our contractual provision states that any bargaining unit member is eligible to apply for a Flexible Work Arrangement.
- All unit employees are eligible to apply for a flexible work arrangement.
- Written explanation must be provided if request is denied so members understand the decision-making process.
Whether or not you have a current FWA, grievances can be filed if the process is not followed. Find these provisions and a host of supporting materials detailing our contractual rights at www.ura-aft.org/flex.
