Report Back From Lobby Day

Trenton lobby day

URA, CWA and AAUP F/T and lecturer members went to Trenton on Thursday, June 12, and spoke to Assembly people and State Senators to get support to restore Rutgers funding in the FY26 New Jersey State budget. We still need your help to persuade state legislators that our programs, our students, and our university needs to be prioritized.

With over 30 Rutgers budget lines reduced or eliminated totaling over $65 million dollars, we are facing significant consequences to workers, students, and faculty across the entire state. By letting legislators know that URA members are their constituents, and we are very concerned about the impact on the state’s economy and by investing in Rutgers, they are investing in our collective future.

From URA member, Joe Erdely, Chef Manager at Harvest, “Going into Lobby Day with hardly any idea as to how the legislative process works was a little intimidating. But teaming up with seasoned URA members helped make Trenton much more approachable and, dare I say, enjoyable experience. I now have a better idea how the system operates and look forward to engaging on a more regular basis.“
