Newark Chancellor Tonya Smith-Jackson recently issued a directive that the “Newark campus expects all units to prioritize a 4:1 in-person schedule” and that “Departments proposing a 3:2 schedule must submit justification to the Chancellor’s Office for review and approval” in violation of our union contract. Furthermore, this contradicts Senior Vice President for Human Resources Vivian Fernandez’s January 14 email and does not follow the established University process for flexible work arrangements.
Join us for a lunch time rally and march on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, beginning at 12:30 PM at the Norman Samuels Plaza and marching at 1:00 PM to the Center for Law and Justice (123 Washington St) to tell Newark Chancellor Tonya Smith-Jackson that FLEX Works! and our union contract must be followed.
