URA members have received an email from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield that confirms the Special Open Enrollment that we demanded to take place in April.
For those who made changes to their health insurance plans last year, you need to do nothing.
For those who are enrolled in the state legacy plans like NJ Direct 15 and want to switch to a union negotiated plan, this is your opportunity to change and your choice will be effective July 1, 2026. You will see a decrease in your employee contribution to health insurance since the union negotiated plans are calculated on percentage of salary, not percentage of premium.
Copay increases have impacted most of the available plans so that is less of a consideration at this time.
The Coalition of Rutgers Unions (CRU) will schedule another Healthcare Town Hall to go over specifics of the plans, as well as to talk about advocacy for improvements in SHBP.
