URA members have been making calls to our state legislators, both in the Assembly and Senate, to request meetings as constituents and representing our union. We have had a few such meetings where we are making asks for direct support in the NJ budget to fund our positions.
As action progresses slowly, we are asking you to continue making those calls so we can expand support for our legislative asks for increased funding earmarked for our positions.
Use https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/legislative-roster to find your local legislators and call them to ask for a meeting. Let them know that you are a constituent and have concerns regarding the proposed state budget. We want to discuss collaborative ways to enhance the mission of Rutgers and how our work and continued employment contributes to maintaining a strong economy in New Jersey. Let us know at union@ura-aft.org when you have reached someone and we will schedule a meeting together and prepare beforehand.
Our members live in all 21 counties of New Jersey so we have extraordinary reach. Let’s use our collective strength to help each other through this difficult time!
