While assaults on the independence and funding for higher education continue, URA members have vested interest in political decisions that impact our jobs, our work and our livelihood.
Many grants that fund our work are funded by a variety of federal agencies including National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Security Agency (NSA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Department of Education and countless others. Our students are funded by federal student assistance and loan programs. We work for federally funded programs for the community and specific demographic populations. Since federal dollars are more competitive now due to changes made by Congress and the current administration, we need to elect legislators who will support our needs moving forward.
URA’s Committee on Political Education (COPE) has voted to encourage members to support NJ AFL-CIO’s Labor Walks across the state, focusing on our endorsed candidates in Congressional Districts 2 in South Jersey and 7 in Central Jersey.
Labor Walks are held every Saturday, from now until Election Day but we are focusing our efforts on two URA Labor Walk Days:
October 10 in Union CLC, SMART/SMWIA 22, 700 Swenson Ave., Kenilworth
October 24 in Southern CLC., 2240-15 Route 70 W, Cherry Hill
Please join us every Saturday at the CLC that is closest to your home to support our endorsed labor candidates. All URA members who participate will be eligible for a $50 stipend that will be paid after Election Day for every Saturday they participate. You must bring your license to check in and have a smart phone to download the minivan app for your walk list.
