Understanding Class 3>Class 1 Conversion

Rutgers management have begun implementation of our grievance victory on Class 3 perma-temps. Employees who were in the Unit Administrator/Specialist title have been converted to Class 1 “regular” appointments. End dates for these jobs have been abolished. Benefits, work-week and Paid Time Off accrual will be brought up to the standards of the URA contract.

Salaries for some Class 3’s were well below URA minimums – now we must get each affected member classified and paid correctly. Some members can look forward to substantial amounts of back pay, but all will have the uncertainty of “temporary” status removed and union protection put in place.
