Convocation and Commencement and Rutgers Day, Oh My

contract

Without our work, Rutgers would not work. As convocations and commencement, Rutgers Day and all the various events of this season move quickly from planning to reality, remember that our hard work and the expectation to go the extra mile must be compensated. Contractual articles which may be appropriate for this season include but are not limited to:

  • Article 28 – Overtime / Compensatory Time Benefits/Compensatory time: If you are Non-Exempt (O/T eligible), all hours worked in excess of your standard work hours are calculated at 1.5X. If you are Exempt (O/T ineligible) you should have an agreement, preferably written, that time worked can be comped on a mutually acceptable basis.
  • Article 8 – Call Back Pay: Any O/T eligible member directed to return to work after completing your regularly scheduled work day shall be guaranteed a minimum of 3 hours work or compensation. Any O/T ineligible employee who is directed to return to work after completing your regularly scheduled day shall be guaranteed a minimum of 3 hours of compensatory time.
  • Article 23 – Meal Allowance: Employees who are required to work more than 12 consecutive hours are entitled to one meal allowance of $10.00.

If you are being asked to work Rutgers Day, next Saturday, April 25, remind your manager that those hours count against your allotment (37.5, 40 or 35 hours) for the following week.  The workweek starts 12:01 a.m. Saturday and continues until 12:00 midnight Friday. So if you work Saturday, you should take those hours off during the following week or those eligible will be entitled for overtime in conjunction with Article 28.
